UKSA Development
The Scottish Seaweed Industry Association (SSIA) has the opportunity to explore the potential development of its current structure into a wider UK membership body. This survey is designed to gather the views of SSIA members on this potential evolution.

Background: As the seaweed sector grows across the UK, it is clear that the challenges and opportunities faced by the industry in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland often align closely with those in Scotland. However, unlike Scotland, the wider UK seaweed industry does not currently have a dedicated representative body to support its development. Over the past 12+ months, the possibility of creating a UK trade body has been discussed extensively with funders, industry stakeholders, and other organisations.

The SSIA has the opportunity to explore a structural and legal framework that could transform the association into a body capable of representing both Scotland’s devolved interests and those of a broader UK membership, creating value for all. Before taking further action, the SSIA Board is keen to understand the appetite and perspectives of its current members.

We invite you to share your insights on the potential benefits, added value, and any risks you foresee in this development. Your anonymous feedback, gathered through this short 12-question survey, will play a crucial role in guiding the next steps.
